How do you decide what to buy for people? Do you set an amount you are going to spend on them and then look in that price bracket? Or do you look for something they would like irrespective of cost?

I try to set a budget and then head off shopping and hope I see something within it. Several trips later I end up spending more than I planned. I always try to get people presents that I think THEY would really like. I look through the Argos catalogue for ideas. If all else fails I just ask 'em what they would like. Jack x

I always try and buy something that I really think they will love... it's easier said then done because I will find myself looking at things I secretly want but I find a strong, controlling friend usually helps. lol becx

The older children all make lists within a given budget, the younger two have lists made by Mum, Son, DiL, sister, her husband and my husband all make lists and I make one too. Daughter and I both buy lots of small useful and/or luxury presents for each other and wrap them all separately putting them in a decorative carrier bag. son in law also has a selection of small useful presents. These small presents don't feel as if they cost much because they are bought throughout the year but if I add up the cost there are a air few pounds worth there!! Ann glos

Usually go for what they want!, except for Dad, who say's he doesn't want anything! :)

I keep my eyes and ears open all year - then if someone happens to mention something they like, I either go and get it then and there, or keep it in mind till nearer Christmas. I have a very approximate budget - as we are a very small family, I just tend to buy people what they want or what I think they'd like, within reason, but I understand people who have to stick to a budget. Nothing makes me happier than if I get the right gift for someone! Mandy :)
