I haven't got a clue!! I do use it but not very often! We have laminate floor downstairs so I tend to hoover upstairs once a fortnight. Couldn't tell you the make of the thing. It's a cylinder one and it works pretty well but is rubbish at picking up hair. Jack x

I use a Dyson "Animal". Wih two long haired cats and a golden labrador, I find it very good. The turbo tool has a revolving head , great for stairs. the whole thing is quite heavy but has a very long flex. I think Dyson are well designed. To those who say that theirs dosent pick up well any longer, I have a suggestion. Take it apart as much as you can, easy really, cut off all threads and hairs wound round brush strips. The trickiest bit is getting the right tool to open up the cover of the cyclones which get cloggedf with dust. You need a little tool with a special name , a bit like an Allan key except that it has a flower shaped head. undo those secrews and give the thing a really good clean out. I do this about once every 4 months. Wouldnt be without my trusty Animal!

My mother has a Kirby and its been going for YEARS - I'm 40 ( nearly in the summer ) and I can't remember ever seeing her with anything but!!! I myself have Beam - its a hole in the wall vacuum that sends all the dust and dirt out of the house via the hose into the cannister in the garage - its fantastic & hassle free!! Merry Christmas & much happiness Debi

So glad you put this thread on. We have a Panasonic and it is absolute rubbish at picking up RUBBISH. We have had a look at Which Mag. and they recommed Miele cleaners so it has been really helpful reading the replies. Carolyn

I have a Vax, it works well but is a bit heavy to lug up and down the stairs. My daughter has had a cylinder Dyson for about 6 years, she bought a new beater attachment for it recently and it works well. Mum has a small Hoover cylinder vac, it is light and picks up very well but a nightmare to change the bags! Heather

Daniel I think you should have a little project over the holiday to do a bar graph or some such and see which vacuum cleaner gets most/least points, and then present us with the results. Why buy Which? when you can get the lowdown here? nell

Another Miele fan. Had one for 16 years which lived through building work, picked up the rubble. I now have a cat and dog Miele,. I have had my Miele washing machine since 1990 and it looks and works like new.

We have a Nilfisk, an okay vacuum. We have had over the years Electrolux and Hoover which weren't very good. John

Meile bags - there are much cheaper versions on sale in markets/hardware shops/supermarkets which work perfectly well and come complete with filters. Usually about £4 - 5 for box of 5. Shop around. Ann

Anyone else got a Vorwerk? - not available in the shops. Had mine for about 9 years and I'm too embarrassed to say how much it cost; but it's still FANTASTIC, so obviously worth the money.

I have a Dyson which Ive had about 10 years(?). After about a year it wasnt working properly so took it to my little man. When I went to collect it he said sternly to me "Have you ever cleaned this thing out?" and showed me the most revolting blue grey sausage of tightly packed muck at least six feet long which was wedged in the hose. Blush blush! I now regularly change filters and prod hose for lurking sausages of muck ( a bent wire coathanger is ideal for this task). I love my Dyson! Had a Miele before that, v good but oh, the cost of the bags! and a replacement hose was going to cost nearly £100 - I ditched it.

I've had a Miele Cat & Dog for about 6 years now - works a treat - only negative is that the bags cost a lot - £10 for 5. For Derek who was looking for a C&D vaccum - if you look for this one as recommended it's now Blue :))
