I've had 2 really ghastly commuting journeys: 1) when on the tube from Northwood to Great Portland Street. It had snowed and the train was moving really slowly - I think they must have had men shovelling snow off the line in front. It was very overcrowded and because we were hardly moving, no air came in through the windows. A lady who was standing up turned very green and said she was going to faint - the whole carriage had to shuffle round so she could sit down and various parts of other people's anatomies were in closer proximity than any of us wished! 2) from Hitchin to Gt Portland St. I was supposed to be interviewing someone at 10.00 that morning. The main railway line wasn't working at Hitch, so I phoned my husband (day off) who got dressed and then drove me from hitchin station to Welwyn Garden City where I caught a train that stopped EVERYWHERE. I got off at Finsbury Park and phoned boss on platform phone (pre-mobile days, folks) and he said he was holding the fort till I got there. I ran down the spiral staircase and jumped on an open tube train - and then realised it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry. Then came a public announcement about delays, followed by one announcing Mrs Thatcher's resignation. Loud cheers all round the carriage! Still, nothing beats the three and a half hours we sat almost stationary on the M25 in sheeting rain, when we had to get down to Portsmouth to catch a ferry. We just made it! nell

AARRRGGGHHHH! Just had the worst tube journey ever. I get the train with my friend, and he insists that we get on the first carriage of the tube...the one where everyone gets packed like sardines, but this morning was awful, i had some old guy pressing himself up against me, he stank, had greasy long hair and really long finger nails...and even worse he was coughing in my face!! UURRGGHHH...was making me gag, and my friend Chris found it highly amusing!! YUK! xx
