Hi all, I'm a new Full Member here and I want to find a site where I can find out about Irish Family History. I know about the 1901 Census but that is on for England and Wales - is there a same sort of thing for Southern Ireland? Looking for the "Glaccum" s in particular... Cheers! Phil

Short answer - No. The 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses are not available in their entirity online, and neither are most other Irish records. Before 1922 there was no North or South of Ireland, which is why there are problems with putting the records online today. The section on the homepage for Irish family history is quite good, but if you want to find actual records, you need to Google for them. You MUST know at least the County to be able to find people; townland would be better. Anything that is online is the work of vounteers. The familysearch.org site has some Christening/marriage records but these are incomplete and in some cases woefully inaccurate. Check out the Family History Society for the County you want and see if they can help.

You could request a look up - on the tips / records boards - on the BVRI (British Vital Records Index) - this has some Irish marriages and christenings. It is on CD. I empathise strongly on this!!! Great-grandmother was thought to have come from Galway until the 1901 (English) census stated Dublin!! Joy
