Another Birkonian here and have to admit that when at sixties concerts over past few years and Gerry has been playing - I have howled when Ferry cross the Mersey has been sung - my son just accepts it. About 12 years ago staying with a friend in Northop Hall went over to Liverpool with her and my husband on the ferry and as they both remind me now and then I howled all the way over and some hours later all the way back. They just left me quietly to my memories and tears! There will be some eyebrows raised at my funeral - Ferry and You'll never Walk Alone are in my instructions!!!!!!! My daughter will be mortified!!! I miss the humour/kindliness/memories - etc. etc. from both sides of the Mersey.
