Advice on giving blood

Could well be psycological. When I first started doing it I used to hate it, everything made me feel dizzy from the blood dropping into the liquid to see if it sinks fast enough to the little red logos everywhere. One time they refused to take blood from me just because I felt so queasy at the thought of it. Having done it about 8 timesnow, I'm fine with it, my 17 year old daughter does it too.

Think you could be right about it being psychological! I am usually fine but did have a funny turn when I began describing the process to someone - I think I just thought about it too much. Anne (47 donations!)

Feel fine, a little bit tired but fine! You should find out if you can because they so desperately need the blood, it doesn't hurt and there aren't enough people donating. becx

Welcome back, and well done - no fainting then ? I tried to donate once, but was told I couldn't as I'd had Glandular Fever quite recently. Don't know whether I can now or not though ?

Just to let you know I'm back and I was fine!!! Think it may be psychological, they told me if I felt funny again I'd be stopped from donating again.... I can be a stubborn woman when I want to be! becx

I suppose anything that normally makes you feel 'restored' - sorry didn't know how to phrase that! lol - hope you know what I mean. Stop worrying! - that won't help - just lie there a bit longer - I'm sure they'll understand. Paul - trust you!! Magsxx

is it still appropriate advice that when someone faints you should loosen their clothing ? lol

Bec - I used to flop out every time! I found that Marmite sandwiches helped. Perhaps you should sit on the bed and munch some before you stand up - nothing like taking a packed lunch with you! lol Whatever - without people like you etc etc.! - Hope it goes ok Magsxx

That's a shame Maz. I get so frustrated at the number of young, healthy people I know who just won't give blood. I know it's each to their own but it's such an easy way of helping other people.

Chrissie - I don't know what you're suggesting!!! I actually don't really like chocolate (honestly!) but will have some if it stops me fainting! becx

Bec Are you sure you didn't just put this on in the hope that someone would suggest that you eat lots of chocolate:))))))

Thanks Kaylene They know I suffer (it's on my paperwork) and they make me lie down for longer afterwards but I still have a funny turn. I'm slightly anaemic but not enough to not be able to give blood. Will take your advice and take some Christmas chocolate with me! becx

I'm going to give blood this afternoon but the last four times I've done it I've been ill afterwards and fainted... Any tips on how to stop this happening? It's starting to put me off donating... becx
