It was the early 80's when I went there Bob. I was staying with my brother in Brixton. What sticks in my mind - apart from the wonderful wildlife, (I saw evidence of badgers) was the variety of 'headstones' and memorials. One in particular was a wooden cross with a stick- on man ('gents' toilet sign) with more stick- on letters underneath giving the birthand death dates and 'DAD'. There was something wonderful (and rather poignant)about this obviously home-made memorial. Especially as we know it wouldn't be allowed in most burial grounds. maggie |

When we were there, between 1963-1975 the cemetery was a wildlife haven.......(although was closed to new burials unless you already had a plot,) we used to walk through on Sunday afters, after dinner with the kids and the dog.........Amazing.... None of my lott were buried there though..........LOL I believe that the BBC? did a kind of play centred on the Nunhead Cemetery, also think the Stonemason's house played a part in it... |
