Excellent Sarah. It's at least nice to get a reply. Cheers. Tony Victoria, Australia.

I've had a reply! And it sounds like good news :) Heres what they said "Dear Sarah, I am sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you for your email and letting us know about your two threads on the site. I have read both of them and they are very informative. I have forwarded the details on to Michelle (the Genes Reunited manager). We have quite a few plans for changes to Genes Reunited over the coming year. One of the plans it make the site easier to use and have lots of helpful advice for our members (particularly beginners). So your threads will certainly be really useful to us when our developers make the changes to the site. Thanks again for letting us know about this. Please don't hesitate to contact me again if I can be of further assistance to you. Regards Estelle" Yay!

As far as I'm concerned we could do with more tips like those Anthony has given us on the topics. We're all new to something in genealogy regardless of how long we have been at it :) I made my first foray into the will calendars a couple of days ago and although I came up with nothing it was still a useful experience. June - Yes there are many people who don't read the tips or who read them but just don't take them in. Its annoying at times, but theres not much you can do about it. Even if GR put such tips in a more prominent place, there are many who would not notice or ignore them.

I was just reading all the repy's to this thread. I totally agree with what Jess has said, as i was thinking along the same lines. ( Included in the list of sub-headings.) I realise i may be the odd man out here, but i also have added a hopefully general tip on Sarah's thread for those in the U.K and others trying to do research in Australia. Cheers.Tony Oz.

I think if GR do not take up the idea we should all try contacting them. For the moment though we'll see what their initial response is. It would be nice though if it was one of the links to the right hand side of the screen as you say Jess :) Thanks for bumping the topic, its people like you that keep the whole thing ticking over!

Camberwell Beauty - I like both of your ideas. I agree the blue border to the right hand side of the page is annoying. I do think GR do need to do more about hints and tips as it will do more good than harm. Afterall, it would increase its reputation and I'm sure some of us would be more likely to recommend it to friends and family if they had more info and tips etc. Thank you for your kind words also :) I'm glad that people having been getting much out of it.

Sarah, whether you know a lot about genealogy or not, you have done an excelant job on what you have put on your tips board....why not talk to Gr and see if together you can come up with a solution...if you don't ask you will never know..your thread has survived on the boards for a long time, so it is certainly worth while sorting out the teething problems, there has got to be an answer ...

Bryan - Am still a little confused I confess! Is this when you go into the topic and start reading or is it when you're looking at the topic titles on the board? Its just that on my computer "ESSENTIAL READING, BEFORE FIRST POSTINGS - PLEASE READ!!!!!" is not running into my name on either the tips board or the record office board. Have I got it wrong?

sarah, two lines is fine, its just the top line goes too far accross the page,so the text follows. try editing the - out,and replacing with a comma. someone did it yesterday, when they wrote hooooooooo, accross the page, and we had to scroll down, each time we needed to read a thread. hope all this makes sense,as ime not very good at explainingthings lol. bryan.

Would GR be intrested though? Bryan - should I remove the 'please read' bit. I'm just anxious that people notice it and read it. Is 2 lines really all that excessive for a title? Jean - I really don't want to do that as I don't know enough about genealogy. Other contributions mean the topic is constantly being kept up to date with what needs to be read to avoid 101 topics that no one can answer. If necessary though I think I may have to consider not letting people post as you say.

Jean Report 6 Jan 2005 11:15

that is a good idea june,or sarah you could ask that people don't add to your thread

sarah,if i can make a suggestion. edit the title,as its too long, and makes for uncomfortable reading. try putting a comma, afterthe word...postings...this might help to condense it,as at the moment,we are having to scroll down the page. bryan.

Guinevere, That certainly sounds possible, although when it comes to nudging these topics up the board for others to read it may take a bit of time. I think thats the only downside to it so its definitely something I'm going to think about.

Hi everyone, I run an tips topic on the Records Office board and more recently the Tips board. Its started to accumulate so much information that it fills up an entire page before anyone can add any new info to it! And people are adding new information to it. What should I do? If its too long people won't read it. I have added a contents list at the top to make things a little easier to find, but its still one big page of text! So I'm asking you all for your advice, what should I do? all the best Sarah I always forget the first message is never neatly organised!
