I came across the following advert in Yours magazine and don't know if people are aware of this. FREE EYE TEST IN YOUR OWN HOME The outside Clinic is a specialist in home eye care. the outside Clinic will, on request, organise an optometrist to examine your eyes in the comfort of your own home. Our optometrists are equipped to detect glaucoma, cataracts and other potential sight problems. they also provide helpful advice and assist with choosing frames and lenses. Your spectacles are then manufactured in a dedicated laboratory, then a second appointment is arranged for our optical dispenser to deliver and ensure the best fitting for you. FREE service: The Outside Clinic is free and sight tests are free to patients who qualify. In addition there is a free range of spectacles available to those in receipt of appropriate benefits. the Outside Clinic follows a code of conduct set up by the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians (FODO) for at-home eye care. Who is entitled to eye care at home? All those who cannot visit an optician unaided, regardless of age. (e.g. Those who need help from friends or relatives to get out and about or those who have difficulty using public transport. Who is entitled to a sight test? Anyone who has eye problems Anyone over 70 who has not had a sight test for one year. Anyone under 70 who has not had a sight test for two years Anyone who has been advised to have more frequent eye examinations and is now due to have one. CARERS Many carers have as much difficulty in accessing optician's services as the people they care for. If a carer needs an eye test the Outside Clinic will be more than pleased to attend to their needs. For friendly advice or an appointment call The Outside Clinic: Free phone:- 0500 295 245 www(.)outsideclinic(.)com or info(at)outsideclinic(.)com Note: As I see it, if you qualify for a free test you will get it free but, as you would if you visited a normal optician, if you don't qualify you will have to pay. therefore it would be advisable to check their prices when contacting them Hope this may be of use to someone Ann Glos

Sounds good Ann Be useful to know if anybody here has ever used them. My father is housebound and it's a reall pain for him to get anywhere like this as they have no transport. Might be worth telling them about Diane

My dad has parkinsons amongst other problems. He can now hardly walk. Because he pretty much shuffles along now his feet have to be regularly done as his toes are digging into the floor as he moves about. He goes to a clinic nearby to get them done but they charge almost £25. It would be handy for a home chiropodist for him. I suppose they would still charge the same but he wouldn't have to get lifts or taxis. Diane
