One of life's mysteries Paul! lol I think the squabs are born on high buildings and if their first flight doesn't go well - there aren't many of them to see! I've seen youngish ones (browny coloured aren't they?) - they must be the successful ones! lol Magsxx

Unfortunately I have seen baby pigeons very close up. Last year a pigeon got into our boiler room at work and decided to lay some eggs, one of the secretaries decided it would be cruel to get rid of the pigeon before the eggs had hatched so we had to put up with pigoen in the boiler room until the eggs had hatched. Baby pigeons are very very ugly. Once the pigeons were big enough to fly out the window we had to get pest control in and spray everything as they had pooed everywhere and alot of things had to be destroyed, even know I hate going into our boiler room as the reminder of the noise of wings flapping still gives me the shivers. think you're right. in my day pigeons had a D! i also wonder why if one of a flock of geese is a goose, why isnt one of a flock of sheep a shoop? and by that token, does that mean that when a farmer shears his sheep and takes their fleeces, if he shears just one shoop does he get a flooce??

Serious answer! My late Dad used to race pigeons beautiful chocolate brown and white ones. I hand raised many of them. When they "hatch out of an egg" their eyes are still closed, they are pink, hairless and as ugly as sin. Lindy;-)))
