Geoff,thnks for the reminder.Mygrandmother used to ring her hands and say 'We will all end up in the Workhouse@'If we were going through a particularly tough time as a family.I think it was a real fear from her own childhood- No Welfare State then,No 'I know my rights' when you havn't put a penny worth of work into the kitty-Rose |

Thanks Geoff. I have just asked hubby to tape it for me. I eventually found my Gt grandmother, Grandmother and her siblings in the workhouse in 1881 and have visited Southwell workhouse which is run by the National Trust. Chrissie |
