ooh I wouldn't have been allowed to embroider, wasn't allowed to knit either, or play card games etc. just allowed to read and listen to radio. had quite a narrow minded Mum. And to this day i have never been to the cinema on a Sunday - old habits die hard!! Mind you i do now iron, wash, etc on Sundays. Even before my Mum died, and she knew, but times change. Ann Glos

Fairy godmother when I was fourteen we lived hundreds of miles from relatives but a typical Sunday was confirmation class, church, lunch, walk with friends, tea, listen to Radio Luxenburgh. If weather was inclement, read, embroider. Ann

Sundays were always lovely cuz I stayed at my Grans every week-end. We used to listen to 2 Way Family Favourites while Gran got the roast in the oven then after lunch, we used to walk down to Eastham Ferry and watch the boats going down the Manchester ship canal. If it was raining, we stayed home and played cards or dominoes and listened to Jimmy Clitheroe on the radio (wireless).

Gardening, go for walks relax. And ---- would you believe the children would go to sunday school and the parents would often go to church!!!! Now we tend to visit garden centres for a coffee but try to stay away from normal shops although of course we have all week to go shopping now we are not at work. Ann Glos

I wonder what they did years ago with no shops open at all and no television. Perhaps they read or talked to each other or went to afternoon tea with Auntie Mable. Jo.

I only shop if I absolutely have to! Husband works very hard during the week so he likes to veg out a bit, we may potter in the garden, take the dog for a walk or drive somewhere if weather's nice.

Clare - you gave your order to the grocer and he delivered it! No delivery charge and if you were working he either came after 6 p.m. or left it with a neighbour.

Not a lot.... find it better to shop now though as I'm at work all week, and Saturday's are manic in town, so Sunday is better for me. Bev
