I'm at my wits end with a disgusting habit my Westie puppy has - he's had it since he came from the breeders - and wondered if anyone has experienced a puppy thinking their business is another meal!!!

Thanks Jackie, I've read on the net that that might be the reason he's doing it. All they can suggest is a pineapple chunk in with each meal...needless to say it didn't work. lol Paul...what a thought!

Think you will find that he will grow out of it..........

I have also heard that if a dog thinks going to the toilet is "naughty" they will try to eat it to hide the evidence as it were. Yuk!

I have a black Lab, who always finds 'do's' in the park to have 2nd breakfast on. Makes me feel sick. She is five. Jo.

Please try Googleing Dog Rescue Pages. You can sign up [free] and there are always peeps there that will, seperatly, give you the benifit of their experience. Well worth a trip to, I'd say. Go on, you got nuffink to loose. BTW I am a dog owner Brain-dead lab.

Definitely a common problem with Labs. The one in our family loves eating the fox poo and rolls in the dog poo.

Emma. your dog might need worming..........best to get tablets from a vet.........those you buy in a shop might not be fully effective.............

Thanks so much all of you for advice...great to hear that he still might do it when he's five!!! He's been wormed on a fornightly basis by the vet for the couple of months we've had him so I don't think it can be worms 'cos I've seen no sign of any. He's on a specialist (and very bloody expensive) diet at the minute because it seems he has food allergies to chicken and rice among other things. Poor little fella's had a terrible start, he also had an inflamed colon and intestines when he came to us - we had no idea when we picked him up - and has needed steroid injections. He's not had all his jabs yet because of being poorly so hopefully (please god) I'll be able to break the habit a bit when he can go out for walkies. Thanks again...great to know I'm not alone x

try giving him charcoal biscuits, you should be able to get them from pet shops, if not ring the vet they should be able to tell you where to get them from. Its quite normal behaviour and most dogs will grow out of it. My dogs used to enjoy freshly laid cat poo eeeewwwwww!!!!!! HTH Kaz

How can they manage to be so adorably gorgeous and yet stomach churningly gross at the same time! I sit with him in the kitchen all day long - waiting and waiting to catch him - nip to the loo for less than a minute and the sneaky monkey's done it in that time. He knows it ok cos when he does go in front of me he gets so much praise I sound like a regular lunatic.

Emma, Know what you are going through.........we have a border collie..now 5 1/2 months old...........cant seem to get a sensible food for her, she eats ok, but sometimes is SOOO sloppy.........then she goes on a diet for a couple of days of rice, which helps..............she doesnt do what yours is doing, but has a fancy for live food.........snails slugs n things..........now has a fancy for peeling off wallpaper..LOL hope she gets over it soon............
