Nicola: Of course I can never find what I'm looking for when I need it! I am however, typing you directions now to get you started.....More directions will follow as you need them. First things first though, you need to get your info into the program so directions that will follow in a few minutes will get that much done.....

To start building your tree (I’ll give instructions as if you were starting with yourself and building from there): 1. Open the Genopro program….you should be looking at a white grid. 2. Place your mouse on the white grid and RIGHT click. 3. A drop down box appears. Click on FEMALE. This will place a round circle on the end of your mouse pointer. Click anywhere on the grid to stop the circle from moving around. (Circles are female, squares are males.) 4. The circle is highlighted…..click anywhere on the white grid so the circle is no longer highlighted. 5. Now double click on the circle. A large box now appears and will allow you to enter information (ie: birth, death, and you can type in any other information you want here. Myself, where you’re able to type freely, I added personal stories.) When you’re done typing in the information click on OK. You now see the circle is labeled with your information (ie: Name, birth year and age.) 6. To add your husband, place your mouse over the circle with your name on it and RIGHT click. 7. From the drop down box choose NEW MATE. You’ll now have a square connected to your circle. 8. Double click on the square and fill in your husbands information and click OK when you’re done. The square will now be labeled with your husband’s name, age, and year of birth. 9. To add your marital information place your mouse on the marriage line that connects you and RIGHT click. This will give you an area to fill in your marriage date, notes, etc….. 10. To add children you can click on either one of your names, RIGHT click and choose NEW SON or NEW DAUGHTER. Follow the same directions as above. 11. If you’ve had more than one partner and have children by both, add the children to the father’s square…..not you. This will keep the children’s father straight. Your parents can be added following the same procedure as above. I have a few more tips to post and I am typing them for you now. Once you've mastered all of that I will post more on how to add pictures and documents and how to run the reports this porgram is able to generate. My favorite format is how it takes your information and will turn it into a website format (at the push of a button.) It will then work much like this site, with blue links to click on a person's name and show you all their information. This particular format needs no special software so you can share it with anyone and they'll have no problem viewing it. Judy

Genopro Tip: As your tree grows the grid it tends to look a little sloppy. To make it easier to work with go to the top of your screen and click on TOOLS. From the drop down box click on AUTO ARRANGE. This will clean up your page.

Genopro Tip #2 Keep in mind, once in a while, go to the top of your page and click on the SAVE button under FILE. Computers can be tempermental and sometimes, after entering a lot of information, when you go to save your work you may get an error message telling you that the program needs to shut down. Better to have to re-type only a few people into the tree than say, 50. Better to be safe than sorry…..I learned this one the hard way!

Genopro Tip #3: Once the tree starts getting really large you’ll find it difficult to locate people on the grid. There is a FIND feature so you don’t have to waste your time scanning the grid. To find someone quickly: 1. Go to the top of your screen and click on EDIT. 2. From the drop down box click on FIND. 3. In the FIND WHAT? field type in the name your are looking for and click on OK. ( You can enter the whole name or any part of the name (first or surname.) 4. A list will be generated of the name(s). Click once on the name of the person you want to find on the grid. You can close this window now. 5. The person you are looking for is now on your screen and highlighted.

If anyone wants to try GENOPRO, it's a free program and can be obtained at: www.genopro.*com (Remember to remove the * from the address!) I use this program along with Family Tree 11.0. I can enter information into one program and open the file with the other which than allows me to generate the different reports both have to offer. One of the pluses to using the Genopro; when I generate an html formatted report (a report that works like a website) I can send it to others (via e-mail, CD disk, etc....) and the person I've sent it to doesn't need any special software to view it. When I share my tree directly from Family Tree the person on the receiving end also has to have Family Tree or a program that is capable of opening a .ged file.
