Is it a bird? is it a plane?

Is it a bird? is it a plane? Report 13 Jan 2005 19:17

Just thought I'd try and start a discussion about this as I've got another relly who definitely was in the army this time! I have an ancestor listed as being a Sergeant in an unofficial list of men going overseas in December 1915 as part of the 13th Battalion, Yorks & Lancs regiment. Here are my questions then 1) What was the highest Non-commissioned rank at the time? Was it Sergeant? 2)How usual was it for a 25yr old to be conscripted and made a Sergeant? Is it likely that he served in the army before 1914? Am just curious :) Does anyone else have any WWI questions to add to this lot? It would be nice to have a bit of a discussion!
