I really, really hate going to the dentists. It all began when my brother and I had to leave our lovely dentist in Chester to go to a new one in Bath when we moved. We went from a lovely man who had fish in tanks for you to watch and whose surgery overlooked his garden where he encouraged you to see how many birds you could find while he looked at your teeth,to an absolute butcher in the Abbey Churchyard in Bath when we moved to the city. This man was obviously paid per filling and my brother and I who had never had any sugar due to war time shortages found that we needed fillings every time we went to this new dentist. I was 8 and I knew we didn't need fillings. But the stupid adults agreed with him. SO WE WERE DRILLED TILL OUR HEADS BUZZED. As soon as I could decide for myself I stopped going to him and went to my step-fathers naval dentists who were great.Sadly they had to face the damage the other man had done to my mouth. They were a fun couple of brothers who worked in Queen's Square Bath and they swore like troupers. This gave us plenty of laughs and my confidence was renewed again. Later whist serving in Hong-Kong I had a brilliant dentist called Donald Chun Wai-The wealthy crossed the globe to go to him.He was wonderful and I spent most of my treatment in a euphoric state as he bombed you out on God knows what. Once I returned to UK i have had little problem due to his excellent work,my Dentists are now THE MARKX BROTHER'S ==NEED I SAY MORE- Rose

I'm going to the dentist next week. like Debbie i'm a scaredy cat. I've had teeth out, a fixed brace everything - you'd think i'd be used to it by now but I have to say i'd rather give birth! Worst thing is now i've got a daughter of my own I have to pretend to like going! Jack x

Well, as I said to someone else on a similar thread several months ago: if your dentist is male, before he starts the treatment you put your hand up his smock and say "Now, we're not going to hurt eachother, are we?" By the way, I don't practice what I preach, and I have a lovely, dishy dentist! Glenys x

morning all, i am going to the dentist tomorrow, my dentist a lady too!!! to calm me down she gives me a piece of crystal. her waiting room is like living room - three piece suite, radio on, etc. and her surgery has patterned wallpaper, lace curtains etc. the only thing that hurts is the price.

You young ones don,t know you're born. We used to have gas and it smelled. When I was a policeman fifty years ago, children were taken to the health office by their parents. There is always a fear of dentist,s and as they got near, the whiff of gas was apparent and they used to scarper. The police had to be informed and they were solemnly recorded as "missing from home" and nearly as promptly "found safe and well". Happy days

well that is funny, cause I had to go to dentist this week to be measured for a crown. I am one of the scardy cats, and he knew that I cant have somthing touching my toungue or the top. so when he put the mould thingy in he sat me up, and he knew from the previous time that I start choking and wanting to be sick. So he sat me up and held it up with his hands and told me to breathe slowly through my nose so I sat there and thought yes this is ok I did some humming and thinking of all the people that were worse of with me. And then all of a sudden I started choking and burping and nearly being sick I was trying to pull his hands off and his nurse was trying to hold my hands, and I sat there and thought having a baby is so much better than this. I was so embarrassed especialy when he is such a hunky dentist, and I try to act all cool and joke with him but now I feel a right prat.

Just heard the following on Radio 2: Woman, to dentist, "I would sooner have a baby than have a tooth pulled". Dentist - "Well, make up your mind, lady, I will have to adjust the chair". It just tickled me!
