Isn't that the terrible downside of doing this research? I can imagine how emotional that made you, the poor little child, wonder if the poor mother was made do it? Well BIG UP Christine for her help hey, nice one? And I am really pleased for you that you now have got that far back. Kim there is nothing we can do about the past, but its so satisfying to learn about our own past. Lets just be thankful society has changed for hopefully the better, it will also hopefully keep changing for a more enlightened one where children and their mothers can be supported. Well done, I am pleased for you. Pat x

Well done that girl,i only wish i could do the same with the Baird side of my family but suspect they originated in Scotland before moving to the Sunderland area but there is no concrete proof to work on.Have fun with what you have ,because now you may get a lot further back and that would be great .Fred.ptfg.

Kim from Sandhurst

Kim from Sandhurst Report 17 Jan 2005 00:56

In 1988 my sister and I started doing the family tree stuff and were looking for our Nana in Scotland, she was illegitimate, but found nothing, then last year I was given her birth, which did upset me, as she was left in a poorhouse in Glasgow. This weekend, with the first help prompted by Christine in Edinburgh, found all my nana's family in the 1891 and 1901 census and now got back to 1866, and the toe raggs had changed the spelling of their name from McCue to McHugh. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but cried more!! :-)))) really chuffed. Kim xx
