It works at a lower level Arthur, most hackers will be using UNIX, not Windows and working at command line level. Ping has many more available options there.

Pat, it is someone trying to get into your computer! Trying to ping your IP address is the first thing a hacker will do to see if he can get a response. If he can find your IP address he may be able to invade your computer, thankfully it seems your firewall is blocking access!

I have looked at our firewall. and noticed that its blocked lots of...Computor has tried to ping your computer...What does ping(ed) mean.. From someone useless on Computers. Pat
