Can't trace birth certificate

I recently applied to the Office of National Statistics for a duplicate birth certificate for my mother, who is still alive and has dementia. They were unable to trace her, and I can't remember whether I have ever seen her birth certificate in the past. She was born in 1916. She was born and brought up in the UK, and has had a UK passport in the past, but this expired about 15 years ago. I don't know what documents she submitted when applying for her passport, but is it likely that the Passport Office would have copies? Alternatively, would a Register Office have a copy of the document which she submitted when getting married in 1939? I suppose the most likely explanation for not being able to trace a birth certificate is that one detail submitted in my request was wrong, but I have no idea which detail it was. |

Linda Have you looked on 1837 online to get the codes to get the cert? What is your mothers name (maiden name surname) and where was she born? I'll have a look for you Margaret |
