Dawn How old does it say she was on her marriage certificate? Could she have been born about 1896? Chrissie x

There was no official adoption process until 1927. Prior to this, people just handed babies over to friends or family and no questions were asked. Liz

I might be wrong but i think you are still in the years when adoption was often unofficial. So there would be no records. have you found her on the censuses? Ann Glos

Dawn I don't know about the adoptions at that time but I do know that you can't always believe the d.o.b. on death certificates. They are given by the person reporting the death, who may not have been sure when they were born. Chrissie

I recently contacted a relation who seems to think his mother MAY of been adopted, so i thought i'd send for her death certificate for any possible clues...it arrived this morning but it didn't tell me anything. Her name was Ethel Radford and she was born in 1898 in Mansfield. I have had a look on 1837 online but there isn't a registered child with that name in 1898, does anyone know how or if i could find out any information about possible adoptions at that time. Dawn
