The binmen have come and took the 7 black bags from in around the wheelie bin!

Yipee! Is the air now smelling sweeter?

Daniel

Daniel Report 25 Jan 2005 15:56

Well people can walk up the pavement without having to go on the road to get round now. I think the binmen were about 2 weeks late so is was a surprise to see them just now.

strange who'd have thought a dung heap would be genetically inherited

Our refuse collectors are not allowed to collect bags unless instructed by us to do so. We have blue bins, brown bins and black bins, all waste has to be put in the correct bins so as not to cause contamination. If waste is in bags the refuse collectors dont know what is inside them, there could be hyperdermic needles or glass e.t.c. so we all have to be very careful.

All well and good, Dan, but have they now gone off to do some hip replacements? (See Grampa Jim's 'I'm Peed Off' thread) LoL CB >|< ;>)

Could've knocked me down with a feather last week! The bin man knocked on the front door to let me know he couldn't get to our rubbish cos the gate was locked. This was the same man I had a row with a couple of months ago when he didn't take my rubbish because I didn't put it on the front for him. Mind you I did point out that that was what HE was getting paid for! lol Jeanette x

Jo Report 25 Jan 2005 17:48

Lets not knock the "bin men" they do a blinding job. They are in a no win situation, if they spent all their time knocking on doors to empty your bins they wont get round to all the bins that need emptying. We should all be responsible for putting our bins out where they can easily be emptied to help the refuse collectors do their rounds efficiently.

Joanne We don't have wheely bins here so I don't see why I should carry the rubbish out and get covered in slimey stuff when they are getting paid to do it. Hopefully we will get the bins some time this year and I will have no objection to putting it on the street when it is all contained in one place. Jeanette x

Our bin men are good lads. They are not allowed to take extra bags in some areas, but they always take ours. I think its because we are all old or sick and disabled, although I've always been able to get binmen to take extra rubbish away for me. It must be the way I ask them! Deanna

Jo

Jo Report 25 Jan 2005 17:56

Exactly Deanna, the lads get so much stick from the public, the old saying goes respect earns respect. They work really hard and very often dont get the thanks they deserve. Well done.

Jeanette we don't have wheelie bins where i live but everybody puts their black sacks in one big pile for the dustmen. we are not allowed to put them out until the night before they come if you do the council can fine you they just go through the bag to see who it belongs too as most people forget when they throw envelopes away the address is on it.it certainly keeps the streets cleaner. i think they do a blinding job,

Jo

Jo Report 25 Jan 2005 18:03

Well said June.

Joanne I'm not disputing that they don't do a good job. It's just that ours are a bit lax from time to time. One of them told me one week when I cought up with him that he hadn't emptied my bin because the gate was locked. Infact it had been open (and I mean open and not unlocked) since 8am and they don't call until 11am. So a blatant lie! Jeanette x

Jeanette, I do understand what you are saying but look at it from their point of view - if something went missing from your garden because you left the gate open for them, who would get blammed? Our collectors can only go onto someones property with good reason i.e the elderly or disabled (we call it a back door collection) and the lads do need permission to do so first.
