I got married in 1990. Licence (I think) was £15. We were married in a register office. Husband wore his posh suit and tie which he already had. I bought a dress for £35/40 (can't remember) about 3 days beforehand, and had to dash to the shops to buy some tights (40p) as I laddered the new ones as I was getting dressed! Shoes I already had. No hats, no flowers, no official photographer, no car. After wedding we went to local restaurant - me, husband, my mum & brother, his parents and brother and brother's soon-to-be-fiancee. No idea what the meal cost as Mum paid for it and parents-in-law paid for champagne [husband and I were going to pay, but were over-ruled]. Motherin-law insisted on buying a cake on the way back - again I don't know the cost. Honeymoon was a holiday in Portugal we'd booked anyway. By contrast, my brother-and-sister-in-law had the works - full frock/veil/hats/morning suits stuff, best man, ushers, bridesmaids/all aunties invited etc marquee in back garden, catering, flowers, corsages for all immediate family and honeymoon in Goa. It was a lovely day, but we had 6 months of phonecalls about the latest stress/problem before hand. nell

Don't know what ours cost - special licence - married in own home - 9 guests took them to a dinner dance in an swish hotel. Very informal and lovely. On the other hand daug. got married in 1985 - I got to £3,000 and stopped counting! Spend what you can afford and no more - it's a special day and all the trappings and a big debt won't make it anymore special. Ann

We spent £30 each for the interview in the Register office think it was £35 for the ceremony itself and £7 for two copies of the certificate. Approx £200 for two wedding rings (never got engaged so no ring for that) Hubby wore a suit he already had I bought a suit from Matalan for about £40 and our honeymoon was our normal summer holiday which included a wedding blessing in the local church for which we made a donation. Can' remember how much we paid for the flowers two carnations and two orchids. Vintage Rolls was curtesy of our two witnesses, who were the only two to know we were getting married. I cooked the meal afterwards at home and all this took place in July 2002. This was what we wanted and we had a great day. I even went to work in the morning! Don't blow all your money on your wedding, you still have to live and property is expensive. Ros.

No I`m stationed at RAF Lyneham, I agree that spending loads doesn`t mean you`ll have a long, happy marriage and ours isn`t expensive anyway, as we have a new baby and saving for our own home.

My husband planned our wedding day as a surprise. It was Novemebr 1985 and it wqas on a tight budget ( only just turned 20 ) I had a navy blue wool dress from M & S I had tried it on and put it back saying Id got nowhere fancy to wear it . He went back the following day and brought it ( cost £60 ) Only immediate family were invited . Food was provided for back at his sisters flat and afterwards I whisked off for our honeymoon on a coach with my Nan back to her place in Somerset. In total a grand sum of just a little over £100 was spent. It was one of the best days of my life and this year we will have notched up 20 years of being together : ) Hope you have the wedding of your dreams and much much happiness ever after .

So Kerry, if you're in the forces - are you stationed at Warminster? Sorry, this is like 20 questions LOL!! Mandy :) PS: My wedding was 20 years ago and I can't remember how much the whole thing was. In fact I can't even remember how much stuff was individually, like dress, flowers etc :(

Yes its Cumberwell park in Wiltshire, Bradford upon Avon. So in your opinion it was nice!! Were going for a look around later this month. Got dress, bridesmaids etc that`s all at the moment. 1st option was Lydiard Park, just down the road but was SOOOO expensive so were going for Cumberwell Park now.

Sheila I agree, were having the day we want but was just wondering. Were getting married at Cumberwell Park, which isn`t too far from us.

'You can buy a wedding but you have to make a marriage' - I think that the most important thing is to have the sort of day that YOU want, regardless of trends and magazine articles. Some of the best weddings I've been to have been the less formal, less planned, inexpensive ones. Horses for courses, whatever you spend, ENJOY!!

I`m planning our Wedding for next summer and like many of you probably know the cost adds up. Roughly what was the cost of your whole wedding and did you buy your parents/in-laws gifts? Didn`t think you had to but alot of magazines recommend this..........
