I have been a member of this site for almost 2 years. When I first uploaded my gedcom then, and complained about it not accepting baptism dates. I was told by the owners of the site that this was in the pipeline to be fixed. Well, we are still waiting. I have amended my gedcom, it took a long long time, and put abt years for the birth date. I refuse to put the complete baptism date as a birth date as that is a lie. My grandmother was 6 years old when she was baptised and most of us that have done parish registers have come across "batch baptisms". Do we assume that we suddenly find multipal births? I have always said that this site was not designed by anyone who knew anything about genealogy programs, hence the cousins marrying problem. I have loads of them too. Margaret

Well that's really good of you Andy. I know if you have a large tree it's a bit of a nightmare. That will help people doing searches cos it only shows the year on Name Summary. But it's got to help you too cos now you'll hopefully get more enquiries if there's a bit more info to go on. Some members refuse to do this as they say it takes too much time and besides GR should do something about it. But if you only did a few each day it would soon get done. Jeanette x

Spot on Jeanette. I've just edited my tree to put the year of Baptism as the birth year. I know that may not be strictly accurate but it's better than nothing! At least the century is probably correct.

Andy So if people have only a baptism date then and it's entered as such on their family tree program, when they upload to the site, GR's program won't recognise either that date or the place of birth? Hope that makes sense! Jeanette x

I just noticed that about the baptism part... I am relatively new to GR, so obviously I was not aware of this, just that in PAF if you don't have an exact birth date etc etc, it just automatically inserts the birth year for you. But you're right if you have the exact birth date it does input it for you.

Jeanette, its Family Tree maker for Windows, ours is version 6 but I think it's up to 9 now. Seems to work fine!

Andy What does FTW stand for? Is it the program you use? Jeanette x

I'm sorry? When I upload my gedcom from FTW it puts in date and place of birth. But not if you only have entered a baptism.

Nice one Gordon! Good to hear This has to be one of the biggest bugbears with this site, that when you upload your Gedcom it doesn't put in dates and places of birth. If you're researching a really common name it makes it virtually impossible. Jeanette x

I am just looking through some of the names that I have on here, and I wasn't aware that GR doesn't necessarily accept all the information you might have in your GEDCOM. Obviously I can't make corrections all at once, but I will attempt to resolve this issue.
