I have been told by the help desk that if I want to add the children to the correct one of three mothers I need to add the mothers first, but I can't add the father or mothers to begin with if I don't add this one child because she is my direct link with this man. HEEEELP!!! Abigail

Hi Abigail I'm not sure if I understand your problem but if for instance you were trying to add a cousin, you would need to have yourself, your parent, your grandparent, grandparent's other children, then their children who would be your cousins. I imagine your problem is more complicated though. Heather

Abigail Put the parents in even if you don't have details. You can always change them later.

Start with the child who is the direct link. Then add her parents. Then call up her father's details to edit and add the other 2 spouses. Then add his other children - as he then will have 3 spouses you should get a message asking which mother with each child you add.

I need to put in my great great grandmother, so that I can put in her father, but when I put his wives in it puts my great great grandmother with the first wife which is wrong as she was his eldest child from his first marriage. You think this bit is confusing - I haven't even tackled the bit where my great uncle and great aunt married each other - they were step siblings by their parents' first marriages, my grandmother was the eldest child from the second marriage. Also the third wife of my great great great grandfather was the aunt of my great great grandfather as well as being my great great great grandmother! Oh dear......... Abigail

I'd suggest using a program to help you. You can link all you want, then upload it to the site. Will work out much easier, and if anyone needs duplicating, the site does it for you :)

Has anyone any recommendations for a good SIMPLE to use, family tree programme that will cope with all the crossed wires I have? I would have to delete all over again and then import it once I had built it, wouldn't I? I am getting sick of typing 80 + people in over and over again. I am starting to wish I was like my husband and had mostly only children and one marriages everywhere! Abigail
