I'm a volunteer ambulance officer, in South Australia many of our country towns have volunteer ambulance crews, if we were not here then there would be a long wait for an ambulance to get to them. Our area is roughly 80km by 40km, but we can be sent to assist in neighbouring areas, or if we are up in Adelaide we can get asked to help out the city crews. Becasue I actually live in Adeladie ( hour 15 min drive) I stay on station all day. Shift is from 8am to 6pm, and during term time we have training at night as well, so often dont get home till 11pm. But I really enjoy it.
