My father Philip Sydney Greenhill died in Selly Oak Hospital Birmingham 23 feb 1983. Born 1915. Is there any way to find if he has a memorial.

If this is his probate record https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=GBOR/GOVPROBATE/C/1983-1983/00091881 address is given as Collets Green Worcester, you could check local cemeteries if you think he would have been buried there?

If you don't have a sub to FMP go to https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills to view the record there.

I can’t see him on Deceasedonline or Find a grave for Worcestershire so Ramblings advice is the best way to go. Councils have a Cemeteries officer - so contact them.

Try contacting the parks and cemeteries dept of the local council ,giving them the details from the death certificate,

They will have details of whether it was a burial or cremation with all the details

But you may have to pay a search fee now

My local one would do a free search but with the increase in people doing family history they found it was time consuming so now charge

Will probably be the same for most councils now I would think

If you haven’t got the cert here is the GRO ref

Does the hospital have records back through 1983?

If so the data should surely include who the body was released to? I presume an undertaker or other organisation. In turn their own records would contain the information that you are seeking.

*IF* the hospital has any patients' records from 1983 it appears they will be with Birmingham Archives and Heritage Service.

But only records 1900-75 are mentioned here - and it doesn't say what kind of records they are:

Has a hospital really got time to trawl through old records?

I still think that the councils cemeteries officer is your best bet. You have the date of death and presumably his then address. Google the local council for the area he was living in to find the correct cemeteries officer.
