RIP

He had a great career, and was a great humanitarian.

We saw him on stage in Vancouver in 1969, and like JoonieC, were amazed at the opening of the show, and then with the rest of it.

It was our 2nd wedding anniversary, I booked the show but OH had reserved at one of the top restaurants in Vancouver. We ddid't think too much about that, until the waiter (as they were then called) got a bit snooty when we said we hadn't time for dessert as we were going to the show. "You should have told us when you arrived and we would have made sure that the timing was correct'!!

Never mind ...... the meal was very good, and harry Belafonte was magnificent!

Many moons ago, an old No. ... I'll call him No. -1 ... and I went to a Harry Belafonte concert. His rapport with the audience was magical, as was the opening scene on the stage, sunrise to his performance of Day-O and the musicians on stage.

At one point he got us all singing, by categories. I think I must have been "women under 40" still, if only by a few months.

When we left the theatre, we talked about that bit of the performance. No. -1 said: "I did it so I could say I sang with Belafonte."

Me too. I sang with Belafonte! It's a great memory of a great man. <3

(And I just paid up again so I could post this!)
