I rarely wore skirts, but did wear Oxford bags.

I was a lot smaller then than I am now :-D. I never liked Hot pants but I did wear Mini skirts. I can remember my Dad telling me that it was more of a necklace then a skirt ;-) :-D :-D :-D

I wore Lee jeans - for boys! I was 6 stone and my hips were about an inch bigger than my very small waist,
I did however have a pair of orange denim hot pants and a matching orange denim jacket, that i wore with white plastic boots, with elasticated tops,

I remember buying a pair and sitting in a bath of cold water to shrink them. I had lovely indigo skin for ages afterwards :-D :-D :-D. I used to like Lee Coopers as well and they had a great shop in the Edgware Road just near where I used to work. I remeber having jackets and jeans to match in all sorts of colours

I always wore Levis too. They were like cardboard. not like the soft denims you get now. Spent hours scrubbing them to get that 'worn in' look. :-D :-D

Just remembered the Union jack style clothing of the mods in the 60s and their reefer jackets. I never wore them as I chose to wear Levis and Leather jackets :-D :-D

:-D :-D :-D MG the spies were out from my school so we had to wait until getting well away from the gates before doing that. Our school was split between two buildings so we had to roll them back down before we passed those gates. The school prefects were snitches too and unfortunately I used to get 2 off them on my train and bus home :-| :-| :-| :-|.
The nuns used to hold a yard rule beside us and measure that way.

Was that Laurence Road in the area I wouldn't be seen dead in near my most hated footie team :-D :-D :-D :-D

Ah I was a teenager and at school in the 50s married age 20 in 1960 and a Mum in 1961. So fashion was something mainly viewed in the press. Although I did wear minis.

Laurence Corner, LG.

An army surplus store in Hampstead Road, and Drummond Street, just before you got to the old Capital Radio building on Warren Street.

Sold lots of bellbottoms, along with the red tunics that were all the rage too, for blokes.

We had to kneel at school to make sure the hems of our skirts touched the ground! But once around the corner, there was lots of rolling up at the waist! :-D :-D :-D

The trouble with rolling up the skirts ( we had pleated skirts) was the made you very fat around the waist.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 15 Apr 2023 13:45

I too was at school MG and seeing as we had a very strict uniform code I would go the complete opposite out of those gates . Trying to place Laurence Corner it is not ringing any bells at the moment :-D :-D :-D.
Yes we could have painted the town red couldn't we <3 <3 <3

I was born in 61 so a bit young to remember the mini. I wasnt allowed to wear makeup until i was 15 in the mid 70's. But we had bell bottom trousers and i had a suede long coat with the fur too.

We used lipstick for blusher lol.

I do remember though Mary Quant white boots and the Daisy sign. My mum wore mini skirts and my aunts too.

I am talking about the 60's here Ann. I was also at school Maggie, but it did not stop me 'looking the biz' in my eyes, after school and at the weekends.

I got through a bottle of eyeliner and mascara a week! :-D :-D ;-)

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 15 Apr 2023 10:08

I think I'm a bit younger - I was at school when the mini came in.
However, it did lead to the turning over of waistbands to shorten the school skirt :-D
