Thank you. That's something else for him to try!

It is possible to access the icloud from windows. You have to download icloud for windows first. If you google there are videos that show you what to do.

Kense, Icloud is an Apple thing and our computers don't recognise it! He is going to ask the assistant in the Vodafone shop when he goes into Glasgow later this week.

Ann, he doesn't use a password, so that is probably why he looked blank.

I'll let you know if he gets it sorted.

It may mean if he normally puts in a password to open and has not done this, it is locked.

Andysmum, sorry if I confused you. The phone should be unlocked, which it probably is if he's looking blank

Surely if the photos are on icloud it should be a simple matter for the pc to read them if it is set up. No cable should be needed.

This may help:

Thank you all very much. When I mentioned a locked phone he looked blank, so I guess it isn't locked!!

It sounds as though he needs a special cable, as the ones we have don't work, so that is now on his shopping list.

Last time he did this, Florence, it wasn't an Apple phone. It was compatible with Microsoft, like mine is. My phone uses the same cable as I use for charging the phone, which is convenient. :-)

I've only downloaded photos from iphone to laptop once and I'm certain I used the charging cable. I'm usually downloading from a camera.
The instructions above are a google result and probably more convoluted than they need to be.

If he has not got a cable he might be able to get one from an Apple phone shop.
thanks for those instructions Island I think they will help me, I will make a note of them.

First, connect your iPhone to a PC with a USB cable that can transfer files.
Turn your phone on and unlock it. Your PC can't find the device if the device is locked.
On your PC, select the Start button and then select Photos to open the Photos app.
Select Import > From a USB device, then follow the instructions.

Is his phone locked?

When I tf photos to my PC, I have a small cable which is separate to the normal charging cable, a white one.
When you connect that to the phone & pc, it should come up import pictures etc?

Has he not done this before?

OH has an Apple Iphone 8 with hundreds of photos on it. Our desktop computer is Microsoft Windows 10 and he wants to transfer the photos to the computer so that he can put them on CD.

The photos are on both the phone and on Icloud but he can't find any way of transferring between the two systems. He is hoping to get a new phone and doesn't want to lose all his photos.

He has tried a memory stick and various cables, but nothing works. Has anybody any bright ideas, please? :-S :-S
