I have finally managed to get our October trip all booked.

We're taking the train (of course!!) from Vancouver to Toronto, with a stop over in Jasper on the way home. That was all booked in May. I booked the hotel in Toronto last month, but Jasper has basically been closed since September 1 when a wild fire started in the mountains to the north-east due to lightening, just 5 km from Jasper. The town was never really in danger, because the fire was moving in the opposite direction, BUT at lest 18 structures connecting Jasper to the electrical network were destroyed.

The town was put on generators, with most of them being relatively low power, so tourists were asked to stay away as there were no services (including restaurants)..

The fire is still not under control, but the structures have all been replaced and the town is back on full power as of this morning (Wednesday).

I've been checking conditions every day for the last 2 weeks, and also trying to see if there would be any space on the train so I could book a cabin and by-pass that stop.

This evening, I found the town was open again, phoned the hotel we like, had a nice chat to the desk clerk, and got a room with no difficulty!

Our usual Christmas trip is also all booked, including hotels. :-D

First time of having any sure feeling that we might actually manage to take these trips since the beginning of 2020.
