Truss has decided not to imose a new windfall tax even though the energy companies are relaxed about the idea. She also plans to have the taxpayer, not the energy companies, pay for the current plan.

I’m not surprised NS is asking for more money, seeing as she announced big spending plans (school meals, rent etc) before Liz had formally taken over. Didn’t give her a chance.

I agree ArgyllGran, the poorest people are the lowest paid along with pensioners who dont pay any tax. I get a small amount of ESA and 2 small private pensions which i worked hard for but I still dont earn enough to pay any tax.
So, a tax cut will do nothing for me to help with increasing fuel bills or food increases.

Unless the government is going to give another payment of say £400 to everyone, there are going to be many who wont get any help.

As for the Scottish government, they are asking Westminster for more money which I find absolutely disgraceful as NS is hell bent on having another referendum. What then if we get Independence, she wont be able to ask anyone for help and where is she going to find the millions to fund it?

The way I feel, a housewife who manages the family budget is probably more capable of running the country and balancing the books!

I've said that price of fuels should be drastically be reduced then do the price cap thing.

Against my better judgement, I watched PM's Question Time today.

(How I hate all that shouting and jeering in Westminster. It's all just a big game to them.
At least in the Scottish parliament they listen to each other, reasonably quietly.)

Liz Truss was going on about the great help she was going to give people by freezing the price cap, and also lowering taxes.

I waited for someone to point out that tax cuts don't benefit the people who need help most - those with such low incomes that they pay little or no tax in any case.
But nobody mentioned that.

Freezing prices is OK - except that we'll have to pay for it in the end.
And what about the people who can't afford their electricity bills NOW?
She'd have to freeze the prices at a lower level than they are now to help those people.

Well, maybe she will. We don't get the details until tomorrow.

Not concerned with them having any experience in their allotted rolls, what do they care about the cost of energy to us mere mortals….they will not be turning down their heating or worrying about getting medical treatment :-| :-|

If they don’t intervene quickly regarding the spiraling costs thousands of small business owners will go under.

Not to mention Care Homes who are big users of energy….as if they have not got enough troubles with staff walking after the vaccine mandate

Suella Braverman was Attorney General and she stood for party leadership. She was knocked out in the first round and gave her support to Liz Truss.

Similarly Penny Mordaunt gave her support to Liz Truss when she was knocked out.
I think it’s jobs for friends although the new health secretary denies this.

Yes I agree with you Florence, Michael Portillo would be a good PM, he never got full of his own importance and would be good for the people which is why he wouldn't get the job.

I have no faith in any of them just now at all! I just dont think the new PM is fit for the job.

Bring back some of the oldies like Michael Portillo, he would have made a great PM. Liz truss had to have voice lessons to make her sound more authoritative, what a wuss lol.

Hardly know any of the MP's in her cabinet, so where did they all spring from?

:-D :-D :-D :-D MPs get their energy bills paid for them - out of our money, so that may explain their not understanding the 'normal' person.

We paid over £5000 for Nadhim Zahawi to heat his house - and his stables. :-|

I mean, we can't have his horses feeling the cold, can we?

Fortunately, this 'error' was found out, and he's paying the stable amount back - that's only the cost of heating his stables, not the energy bill for his house(s)
