You are welcome, I read an interesting book a few years ago about a son searching for over 30 years for his GI father, if I remember the title will post it. x

People Power indeed Maggie :-D :-D :-D

My mum frequented the dances also, her best friend married a “yank” and moved to California….sadly the marriage did not last..however she stayed in the USA and remarried, Mum flew out to see her in the 80’s :-D

It certainly does look interesting!

My friends (much older) sister, Susan lived in the New Forest during the war.- she was a teenager at the time.
American troops were based there - black and white billeted seperately.

Susan told me there were dances in the village hall in Brockenhurst, where only the white soldiers were allowed to attend. The locals didn't lke this, so the Americans held seperate dances, whites one night, blacks another,

The girls didn't turn up for the 'whites only' nights.
The Americans had to concede that there was no racial bias in Brockenhurst, and both black and white soldiers went dancing on the same nights.

That's 'people' power! :-D :-D :-D
