Getting a refund from online purchases

I ordered 2 dresses online, paid for them by paypal. They arrived within 3 days so a quick service.
However, they were about 2 sizes too small and very cheap thin material. So I went online to see how to return the items.
Eventually found an online chat who said they didn't provide a returns label and I would have to write one myself. She gave me the address and Oh my!!

It was in N.J. USA even though they items were sent from an address in london. Also I would have to pay the return postage. They registered my intent to return and said the goods had to be returned to the USA by 6th Aug.

Daughter went to the PO and shipping costs £10 but 8 weeks to arrive so had no choice but to use Airmail at the cost of £20!!

I shall be very careful in future and stick with Amazon . However as I used Paypal it says you can possibly get a refund if company doesnt pay you after 180 days.

If it was less than £20, i wouldnt have bothered sending them back but it was £60.

Anyone else had this experience?

To have arrived in the Hebrides so quickly they must surely have a UK warehouse - I would demand that address for returns.

I did try that and was told, the items are shipped to there for distribution in uk(so obviously have some stock) but they do not accept returns as their company offices are in the USA.

Trust pilot wanted a review so I did one! I didnt pull any punches. There were a few other negative reviews too and one post criticised saying the positive reviews were all fake!

I shall def have to be more savvy in future and check out the companies before I order.

Surely that can't be allowed they're basically making it almost impossible to return items. Glad you did a review others need to be warned.

I always check how long the delivery will be, if around 3 weeks or more check the return address, quite often it's abroad, China and will cost more to return than you paid for the goods this is a tip from my husband who's been caught out.

Florence, bad luck. I think a lot of people may find themselves in a similar position and it’s very easy to do so.

I almost did the same when I saw a couple of dresses on the company site ‘Light in the Box’.

The dresses were my style and I really liked them. I began to enter details then, just in time, I spotted they were coming direct from Asia so I stopped immediately as I wondered whether I would have to pay overseas postage if the dresses were not as seen or the sizes there were a little different from here.

If anyone has ordered from L in the B and had to return would you let me know if returns had to be mailed to Asia or not, please as I still like those dresses?

I have never heard of them, so I looked them up. Having read their Returns Policy, link below, I don't think I'll be buying anything from them. It all seems to depend on why you are returning the goods and as you don't know until they arrive you may or may not have to pay return postage to China.

If this is the same company selling through Amazon, they get lots of bad reviews:

Yes, Andy’s Mum and Argyll Gran, thank you. This is the company I had second thoughts about before placing an order, fortunately.

I wonder if Trading Standards (or similar) know about them - although, judging from the reviews this seems to be a company that cares not a jot for its customers so bad reviews and brickbats from a trading standards entity would possibly be brushed off the shoulder like a bad smell.

Back to the drawing board - and I wish our homegrown, clothing manufacturing industry hadn’t been decimated - but I suppose it is our own fault, lured by cheaper prices as we were.

By the way, in the last year, I ordered two items, supposed to be identical, from Marksys, within about four months of each other, both made abroad. I found Marksys had used different manufacturers, the first in Bangladesh which was the perfect length for me, so the reason for placing the same order again; the second was made in Turkey and, alas, was about two inches longer. I kept it but I wondered how much profit Marksys needs, to make it change manufacturers so rapidly.
