At Christmas when I had to send a payment to a company in Canada, I used Paypal.

They did the conversion and simply added on any necessary transaction costs, which weren't very much, if I remember rightly. All very easy and done without leaving the house!!

The bank printed out the cheque, did some relevant checking and a £10 fee I needed to go to the post office one of the bank staff took me there, ( I didn't know where it was ) put me in the lift and £7 later it was dealt with including tracking
I am less able bodied so was glad of the help.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 12 Jul 2022 14:35

Done it, it took 1 hour 45 minutes altogether because the invoice they sent me was as if I was living there, anyway it is done now thanks all.

Oh yes LondonBelle, I hadnt thought of that, using the credit card.

ZZzzz maybe worth checking before using the bank if you can pay with your credit card, that would be quicker and cheaper too probably.

If you use a card for payment the bank will sort out the exchange rate. I pay for an upgraded Newspapers.com subscription with my Card. They bill me in US dollars, I provide my card details to them and and the bank convert it to sterling to show on my statement. For safety, I normally use a credit card.

Yes ZZzzz go into the bank with all the details. A/c no , name and add of bank etc plus any reference to quote. Ask for a standard transfer bank to bank abroad. Prob cost £25 now but the most secure way and quickest.

Good luck

ZZzzz if you send a stirling cheque, the recipient will have to get their bank to convert the cheque to U$ and they would have to pay the charges.

If you ask your bank to make an international transfer by standard as this is cheaper, it will cost you probably over £20.

In my hey day, I worked in the foreign business section and sending payments abroad then in the 80's wasnt cheap. How much money are you wanting to send?

Can’t you do a bank transfer and that takes into account r/e

That’s what I have done sending to Canada

You would need to talk to your bank though

Plus of course you would need their banking details

You need to speak with your bank as the recipient may not be able to cash the cheque anyway.
