Steve Aubrey who lived at Preston House in Woodleigh, Devon did an enormous amount of very valuable work on local history and genealogy in and around Woodleigh and the surrounding area of South Hams in Devon. In Woodleigh church there is (or was?) a printout of the book he produced, some 150 pages in a thick ring-bound folder. There seems now to be no way of approaching him direct.

Several years ago I photographed a few pages of the book, but nowreally need to see the rest! In any case, this history is valuable to future researchers.

In the course of correspondence in these pages someone volunteered to provide a PDF copy of the text pages, but then failed to answer a request for such a copy. This work by Steve is something not to be lost, so can anyone please come up with such a copy PDF, or be within easy reach of Woodleigh Church in order to photograph all the pages?

I will volunteer to make such a PDF if such photos could be sent to me here in Oxford on a memory stick.

You seem unsure whether there still is a copy at the church. Wouldn’t it be better to check before asking anyone to go there for you?

If there is still a copy at the church they may be prepared to photocopy it for you ( for a charge).

I would assume you have checked with the Records Office, the FHS and the Salcombe History Society.

A person called Grant Pearson was connected in some way. There was also a huge text about the background of the family. Maybe this is what you are after?

I dont know how to access it on here, i just put Steve Aubrey into google and a genes reunited thread came up. So try this and see if its any help.

I have just been looking at the Facebook page for South Hams History Forum. It was fascinating. The forum is open to anyone to post pictures or ask questions etc. If you want to ask someone to photograph the book for you it looks like a good place to try.

Grant Pearson was from Christchurch, New Zealand .
In 2016 he had a copy of the text of Steve Aubrey's book .
However, he's no longer a member of GR.

ADDED:

Googling his name brings up results on Linkedin, Instagram, New Zealand Bar Association, etc.
Might not be the same person, of course.

Sheryl responded to Grant's post, in which he offered to email a copy of the text..

She said "I have been forwarded the same text that you must have from someone else on this site".

Sheryl (who was also in NZ) is still a member of GR.
If you click on her name at the top of one of her posts on that thread, you can send her a private message.
There's no guarantee that she will receive your message, or be willing or able to reply - but it could be worth a try.


But I agree that the first and obvious step would be to check with Woodleigh church.
