Wasted weekend

Well, having spent the weekend clearing out the living room, of everything but the bookcases, sofa, chair and table (which can be moved if the legs are removed) - I've even taken the 3 glass lampshades off the light - in preparation for the ceiling to be boarded, skimmed and painted, in one day, (artex is falling off) the man (that's one man), turned up, only to state the bleedin' obvious - it needs 2 men an electrician, and at least 2 days!
Even I know you can't paint over plaster until it's dry.

I'd contacted the surveyor who arranged this job, 2 weeks ago, about these works, but he chose not to reply.
I'm now hanging around, waiting for someone to phone me, to rearrange the job.

One day, I'll be able to actually settle down and live in this place :-|

Oh Maggie! You really don't have much luck with this house do you? But what is is with people who fail to communicate with others? Nobody seems to care anymore and customer service has gone down the pan big style. If you complain, it's like why are you complaining?

The surveyor is at fault here and obviously doesn't care either. How rude not to reply to you but that doesn't surprise me. i am forever chasing up people who promise to phone me back but they never do.

Heres hoping, someone will get in touch with you soon.

Well Florence, no phone call yet!

However, local elections are looming, and a rep, from the party in charge of Winchester City Council knocked on my door. Poor thing.
He got a run down of the situation - including the fact that I was moved in here, with crumbling asbestos containing tiles – My neighbour moved in 10 years ago, and her floor was all renewed.
He asked if I’d like to speak to the head honcho, no I didn’t. So, the next in line to the head honcho knocked on my door. I wasn’t too happy as I was in the middle of a bar of chocolate. Anyway, he got it all, and more. Methinks I’m going to email head honcho now – well start composing the email – it may take some time!!!

Well you hardly want to move everything back either till the work's done. Nothing worse than hanging around waiting for people to contact you either. As Florence says, customer service has gone down the pan these days. If I hear one more person blame the pandemic.....!!! I hope you get a date and 2 men soon.

It's amazing how bad customer service/pride in their work has decreased over the years. Made worse in this case by the fact this place was forced onto you Maggie. Use the upcoming election as much as you can, and again consider contacting the local Echo they might like the story of your ongoing saga. Good Luck.

Ann - that's so true about not wanting to move everything back :-|

I think I've had the living room nearly as I'd like it for 2 weeks since moving in - over a year ago. The doors are no nearer being put on the bookcases - they're glass, and I don't trust the 'tradesmen'.

Caroline, I'm waiting for the councillor, whose rep I saw the other day, to contact me - he took my email address. Hopefully, they'll look through my repair requests, and perhaps look through their own Asbestos policy - which they've failed to comply with. and realise what sh*t I could stir up - once they've .done the ceiling, of course
:-D
If they don't realise - I'll soon tell them! I've got quite a few pictures of the state the asbestos containing floor was in when I moved in, (January 2021) until it's removal in December - and photo's of the dusty 'blown' cement floor underneath - dust I was breathing in from December to February.

The rep actually said the Council had no money, due to the Government - I pointed out that I believed, legally, they had to have money for asbestos management.

My neighbour moved in 10 years ago - and all of her flooring had been renewed before she moved in.
