I have today just spoken to a family member who tells me they havent had the gas meter read since the beg of lockdown !!! They do pay a regular amount by d/d but am worried now what the actual bill is?
I asked them to find the last bill to which i was told, "its in a bin bag along with the rest of my bills."

So sent them to look through the bag and get back to me.
The meter is apparently too low down for them to read and meter men are now obsolete.
Lets hope there are no nasty surprises in store!

Have a look at the Gridwatch site to see how your electricity is being produced.
As at 12:55 41% is from natural gas and only 29% from wind and solar combined.
And generation from gas is only around 50% efficient.

IMO local solar with storage is a good option and our Council has set up a scheme for people to register so they can get a bulk deal for installation.

Tenders are due in and the choice will be made tomorrow.

But the heating problem is not so clear cut.

Oh, I agree about the silliness, RTR - you claiming (yet again) to live in some ancient terraced house in London.
Let me remind you. Many years you boasted about how good your security was, and how bad everyone else on GR's was. Red rag to a bull mate.
Well, you used the same name for everything - it was sooo easy to find your identity.
I also note you don't put a cross in the 'don't publish my address' box on the electoral form - biiiig mistake!
I just pootled over to192.com, put in your name, and, without paying a penny, the first part of your postcode came up - and that isn't London!

RTR is obviously unaware that gas is used to produce 42% of the electricity used in the UK - which explains why it's cheaper to use gas central heating.

There's no way the UK has enough alternative fuel sources to cover the electricity created by gas, so gas isn't going away.

RTR you are clearly not as clever as you want us to think you are, if you were you would realise what was meant by Ancestral seat. lol.

Reading back, I think, perhaps RTR was referring to his imaginary ancestral family home, and that he personally will have to fit a heat pump in it - which of course, he won't. That's because it's not mandatory, and his 'ancestral home' is imaginary..

But then, without implying it was compulsory, he couldn't have mentioned his imaginary ancestral home, could he?

He really should tick the 'don't publish my address' box on his electoral form! :-D

maggiewinchester Report 1 Apr 2022 20:23

Hmm, I'm almost sure gas WON'T be gone this year - heat pumps can't be fitted everywhere! Flats, for example.
Then there's the fact that 'the proposed installation site must not be located in the grounds of a listed building or in a conservation area. the pump unit must not be placed on a pitched roof.'
Also, it's not mandatory - well, not yet.

There's enough miserable false information coming out of the mouths of the 'powers that be' without adding to it!

Maggie as long as you have the readings, wait until a few days has passed ie next Tuesday when there will be less people maybe trying to send their readings and try emailing them again .

When I was with SSE, there was an automated payment line open 24/7, you could leave your readings and a new bill was sent out about a week later. It was really good as you didn't have to wait in a queue to speak to anyone.

BrianW Report 1 Apr 2022 15:50

EonNext website was overloaded yesterday and I was unable to log on so I emailed my readings.
I had a response to say they had been logged.
I have a smart meter for electricity but that normally produced a bill for the 20th of the month so I gave a manual reading for that as well as the gas.

maggiewinchester Report 1 Apr 2022 10:28

Well, just tried to send them my readings - 'Unfortunately, we're having technical problems at the moment. Either stay on this page and try again in a few moments, or try again later.'
It may be time to send them another invoice - cost of reading meters, £25 each. Admin costs for hanging around, £25 per hour or part thereof! :-| :-|
