Not relevant to Sharon's brother's divorce, which was almost certainly in England/Wales - but just for general info -

Scottish divorces from 1984 onwards, and dissolutions of civil partnerships from 2007 onwards, are on Scotlands People website, and copies of the decree of divorce can be ordered through the SP site.

The decree gives limited info - names and addresses of both parties; place and date of marriage and divorce.

There's no such thing as a decree nisi in Scotland.

Maggie, on my parents' it mentions me and my sister and we were made Wards of Court with custody given to my father. There is no mention of my brother, then aged 5, and my mother told me later that because he was so young it was privately arranged that he should go with her.

I've got my own decree - and it doesn't mention the children!

The best place to get an original is from the court where the divorce was granted.

Yes, I have my father's copy of the certificates.

They are very basic, and not nearly as smart as marriage certificates and it looks as though each court may have designed their own. If this right, then it is possible that they don't all have the same information on them.

Assuming the divorce took place in England/Wales, here is a quote from a previous thread on the same subject, about what is on the certificate.

I have my parents' divorce papers, from 1951, in Cardiff.

Both the decree nisi and the decree absolute (not the same thing) show full details of the original marriage and the full names of both my parents and the co-respondent, and the cause of the divorce.

The only things missing on the decree absolute are the details of me and my sister, and what should happen to us!!

I am trying to help my brother to find out when he got his divorce. but it only
shows when he got married. I got that bit of information can any one tell me
how I go about finding the other bit of info or who I talk to. any help would be lovely
thank you.
