The arrival of VIPS to the Remembrance Day Ceremonies at the National Cenotaph in Ottawa were delayed by about 15 minutes this morning because a "suspicious package" was found in the vicinity just minutes before 11 am.

The RCMP shut down all access to the area, thus stopping the arrival of the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, the Governor-General and her husband, the Silver Cross Mother. The ceremony had already started when they arrived at 11:11 am.

The parcel turned out to be an empty brown paper bag, but the RCMP were acting from an abundance of caution after a soldier standing ceremonial guard was shot and killed in 2014. The gunman then entered the Parliamentary buildings and was killed after shootout with security in there.

How disappointing.

But I did see that the party then took a long time leaving after the ceremony was over, making sure they met and talked to lots of veterans.
