It's happening here, free vaccinations for everyone. There are walk in centres for those not registered because it's more important to have them vaccinated than chase them up, plus refugees have been vaccinated.

Many going to the walk in centres will be illegal workers.

The full percentage of a nation's population would always be 100 at any given moment.

The percentages ought to show per head of population and not the number of vaccinations given - which is where I think the Gibraltar 116.3% might have gone wrong. I believe resident service personnel would have been included in the population but I'd be amazed if someone compiling population percentages would have included workers crossing the border. Vaccinations to them would have, as you said, had to be annotated and would have thus shown in numbers of vaccinations given but not in the percentage of population.

If the person who compiled Gibraltar's percentage did not make the error of including people from other nations crossing the border to be vaccinated (and I can barely believe that someone would include them in the population percentage even though they would have shown in numbers vaccinated) then perhaps he added first and second vaccination numbers together which then could have been 116.3%. If other nations did that the figures would be slewed somewhat and would not be a true indicator of the fully vaccinated.

PatinCyprus Report 21 Aug 2021 15:02

Yes it can 100% plus the others, when they add up the number of injections it comes to that figure. If they've vaccinated that many people it has to be annotated, it may come out as a ridiculous figure but it's the number against the known registered population. It's the way the programme is set up that's all. The extra ones don't have a section to go into.

I agree with you Caroline. I, too, find it hard to understand why health care workers refuse to be vaccinated unless medical reasons prevent them from 'getting done'.

I haven't really kept an eye on vaccinations in other countries because all the stats can be found online. Sadly, like Macron, there will be plenty of governments who can make statistics fit with what they want in order to keep their electorate happy. Is it next year he's up for re-election? I must check! ;-)

Still can't be more than 100% of the population, Pat.

I wonder whether they've included the percentages with first and second shots - to come up with 116.3% but what kind of statistician worth his salt would do that because they would have a grasp of what 100% meant.

If they mean 100% but another 16.3% have had first shot but departed, surely the stats would show 100% of the population and not those who have left the shores.

Including service personnel it would still be 100% if all were vaccinated.

If they included Spaniards who'd hopped across the border it would be incorrect to include them in Gibraltar's population numbers.

I wonder whether they've grouped first and second shots together and added the percentages to come up with 116.3% - which would be an odd way for a statistician to collate figures.

Joylouise I'm not disagreeing with your figures sadly it's hard to find any chart that will agree with another due to different reporting methods or just out and out corruption in some countries. I'm saying Canada has an okay uptake but could do better in many provinces/cities hence the mandatory vaccines in many areas. We have a lot of people who flatly refuse to be vaccinated as I'm sure many countries do, they might also find themselves unemployed soon with or without severance pay. The next problem here for them is with no employment many will have no health coverage past basic care.
I find it hard to understand why Health care workers refuse to be vaccinated even frontline workers.....though they can provide a medical note if there's medical reasons.

Joy, Gib may be a special place as I can think of 2 reasons for a figure over 100% of the population.

1 - are Spaniards who work or maybe live close to Gib. crossing the border to get their vaccinations.

2 - fluid flow of service personnel

Kense, I don’t get the gist of that statistician at all and I wonder whether it is first dose only because, strangely, it reports that Gibraltar fully vaccinated percentage is 116.3% which, of course, is impossible. :-S

Absolument. :-D

I have just googled the question and it seems quite a lot of countries have or are introducing mandates for certain types of employment.

We are introducing the mandate here for care staff from October.

Caroline - took a look at your sites and

72.306 % one dose (my stats 71.95%)

64.599% full (mine 63.86%)

So only a slight variation.

12-year olds were included in mine.

Caroline

Caroline Report 21 Aug 2021 12:42

So many charts from so many countries some of which try and mislead for whatever reason.....but back to the thread as such....more reason for mandating the vaccine when you have good but not great numbers.

That is an interesting list. Many of those places are very small with small populations, where everyone knows everyone else) therefore making it easier to reach everyone.

Canada would shoot up the list if you removed those very small places .

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 21 Aug 2021 12:37

For Canadian percentages the site I looked at was

health-infobase.canada.ca

The percentages were total pop’n and INCLUDED down to 12-yr olds.

The total percentage with first vaccine was 71.95.

The percentage (fully) vaccinated was 63.86.

The ‘chart’ figures for vaccinated usually mean those having ‘the full course’, ie two vaccinations.

There is also a map distinguishing vaccinated per Canadian states.

I found Macrons COVID chart again and he had removed the top three countries (Spain, Canada and UK) to show France on the top spot.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 21 Aug 2021 12:26

The stats as at 20 August, Caroline.

The percentages I gave for Canada were as at 14 August but released on 20th.

Not sure which chart you looked at JoyLouise there's so many to look at! On the one I attached Canada is 10th right behind Israel. Canada is also vaccinating children 12 years old and up whether that makes much difference to the % or not....

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 21 Aug 2021 11:06

There’s a good percentage of pop’n chart online as at 20 August (sorry, finger slipped - it is 20 August).

The order of vaccinations per nation is as follows (highest first).

UAE
Singapore
Uruguay
UK
Germany
France
USA
Turkey
Japan
Brazil
WORLD AVERAGE PERCENT
(With China now added)
India

No mention of Canada which at that date reveals that as of 14 August the percentages are:

63.86% are fully vaccinated and
71.95% have had the first dose.
