No, but thank you for looking.

It was a squashy sort of bag. I have a picture of my grandad with his on my FB page.

You can see it if you find me on there.

I think so but really don't remember that well. What you are describing could be a sidlip used for sowing seeds.

Was this shopping bag shaped, ie handles, or over the shoulder type bag?

Has anybody else come across a 'duck's nest basket' ?

It was a rushwork, soft sort of basket that labourers would take their dinner to work in. My grandfather called his his 'luncheon bag' and I do have a photograph of him with it beside him.

They were reputed to be impossible to fill because they expanded so and you might fit in a rabbit or anything else purloined for a meal quite discretely.

As a child. I thought the pattern of holes in the basket weave resembled the little spots where the cats whiskers leave its top lip so always called that bit of the cat his 'grandad's dinner bag' and, truth to tell, still do!

I thought I might write a little article about it for our village magazine and tried to Google it but all I could find was wicker baskets to put beside your pond to encourage mallards to nest there.

Now, I know there are others who are far more adept at Googling than I am so I wondered if anybody else might be able to find it.

Off you go!
