Of wrong information and all because of one word really.
Mum was told her Fathers surname and that he was a businessman from Reading, Reading was the one word. So we spent years and money researching him only to find that the surname is correct BUT he wasn't a businessman, and he was from Gateshead. Now I have lots of shredding to do, I lot shredding. :-D

At least you’ve got it worked out now so well done.

Could he have been living and working in Reading around the time?

Not very likely nameslessone, my Mum, Grandmother and he are all from Gateshead or Newcastle, Grandmother would have known he wasn't from Reading and a cousin told me her Grandmother ( my great Aunt ) introduced them and that added up to what my Mums cousin told me.

I meant had he spent some time in Reading. He could have been there doing a job - Readings 3Bs. Biscuits, Brewing and Bricks.

Nameslessone, it is possible I suppose and I hope my thoughts on this make sense to you so here goes.
He was a projectionist on his marriage certificate in Newcastle and they were introduced to each other by my great Aunt, he married in 1922 but not to my Grandmother, my Mum was born 1923 in Newcastle. The same great Aunt wanted to take my Mum on but her Mother wouldn't allow it so Mum ended up in an orphanage in Newcastle.
