One of Winchester Cathedral's Peregrine Falcons has died.
Winnie and Chester have a nest on the Cathedral.
Chester was found dead this morning.
They have 3 chicks, which are just getting their feathers,so the Hampshire Ornithological Society believe Winnie will be able to cope with feeding them on her own.

havent seen any notice, but wondered why the nest looked a bit vacant, at Trent university

they lost their female also..

Very sad. I used to watch the webcam.
I hope the female finds enough food - four beaks is quite a lot to fed and those chickies ain't sentimental :-(

Chester was over 10 years old - a good age for a wild Peregrine.
A post-mortem is going to be carried out.
Staff watch the birds constantly via the webcam, and I'm sure, if Winnie has any difficulty,feeding the chicks, the odd mouse will find it's way up there, :-D

We (the city) used to have webcams set up for our local Peregrines as they were so rare many years ago.....now there are so many of them and eagles that it's a daily occurrence seeing them. That said we still have thousands of squirrels they can eat!

It appears, a young male, born in Andover 2 years ago, is 'showing interest' in Winnie! <3
