Anyone know if next census is anywhere near being published?
Thanks

1921 census Bob? Apparently early 2022. Not sure if covid would have delayed it.

Findmypast says that they were expecting to publish it in January 2022 but that it may be slightly delayed because of Covid.

Am I right in thinking that a fair bit of the 1931 census has been lost to ???? I seem to recall reading it somewhere, perhaps on here.

I think it was virtually all destroyed in a fire in 1942. No census during the war so the next one will be 1951. Thank goodness for the 1939 register.

I'd second that, Vera. It's good to have access to the 1939 register.

Seems strange that I will be on the 1951 census if taken in March April iwas 10 months old but doubt I'll be around to see it ;-) ;-)

Some on here will appear on the 1951 census due for release 2052 under current legislation.

Others will appear on 1961 census due for release 2062.

I wonder if anyone will see their name ?

:-D :-D

During 1938 Kodak Ltd based at in Harrow (*) in north west London was experimenting with the latest 35mm "Recordak" microfilm kit imported from Kodak, Rochester NY.
There was quite a lot of concern at the amount of space that UK government records took up especially those that would be sealed for a long time. Kodak definitely microfilmed part or all of the 1931 census. In 1974 at least part of the microfilmed data set was still in existance. Since then the Kodak buildings and factory have been demolished. What happened to the various archives is anybody's guess.
The stores at Hayes were extensively equipped with special fire extinguishers , warning systems etc. The fire was considered as suspicious and an investigation was carried out. The report was never made public.
