Sad news indeed - and only a couple of months before his hundredth.

RIP Prince Philip.

Very sad news.
The Queen will be heartbroken. 73 years of marriage and nearly 70 years supporting her as Queen.

My Condolence to the Queen and all his family.
RIP PRINCE PHILIP <3

Very sad news to wake up to this morning. Let's hope the funeral isn't made into a circus by anybody.....it's not about anyone else but Phillips and the Queen.

Apparently, they're going with his wishes - no lying in state, and it will not be a state funeral.

Watching some of the programmes yesterday about his life,I am just baffled about one part or am I a bit daft. His 4 children were talking about their father and recalling various stories. They had black clothes, tie etc as one would expect but....
Was this part filmed awhile ago in preparation for his death?
I can't believe they filmed it yesterday afternoon and aired it in the evening??
But they all seemed relaxed and not upset in any way.
Am I the only one who has these thoughts?

Prince Phillip had a full life and was the Queen's soulmate. She will miss him terribly,he was her rock.

I would think as with all Royals that the tributes to Prince Philip would be pre recorded what a remarkable man he was .Certainly a very full life The Queen & all family will sorely miss him Barbara

RolloTheRed Report 10 Apr 2021 12:56

Yes, all pre recorded.
It is usual for major broadcasters to have all this kind of material canned and ready to go for people very much in the public eye. They update it from time to time of course.

Currently the Beeb is under fire for going a bit OTT displacing everything else for the late Prince Philip and for reporting the death of rappers while cancelling EastEnders. They can't win.

BBC sets up a page for complaints about ‘too much TV coverage’ of Prince Philip’s death/funeral.

Unbelievable!

I've made a complaint to the BBC - over their cancellation of Radio 4 Extra.
I can understand it on Friday - when all BBC Radio programmes were cancelled,
but Radio 4 Extra is now broadcasting Radio 4. Why?
Radio 4 Extra programmes are on a 'loop', so it's not like they haven't got enough technicians.
If we can have Radio 4 broadcasting (yet more) food programmes, etc, why can't I hear Lord Peter Wimsey?

catch up Lord Peter Wimsey ?

Linear broadcasting is a fading meme lamented by my FM radio and even more an ancient PYE valve radio which can only manage LW & MW (mono) but that is the way of things.

Given the lateral broadcasting which has largely taken over there is not really any need to flood the networks with the decease of HRH. Those who want such coverage should be able o find it easily enough and the others don't care.

Today's world is a poorer place as so many minor pleasures have sunk almost without trace .... a handwritten letter, especially if from abroad and a loved one, the crackle and hum prior to successfully tuning in to Radio Luxembourg, the whoosh as a new LP was extracted from its sleeve, the slight crackle before the music started, the anticipation , a family or group of friends listening/watching/arguing together nailed in place by time, media and applicances as gifts... Nowadays we are all our own island and the poorer for it.

Strangely, being a committed technophobe, I am fully aware of catch-up.
Indeed, I watch TV on a PC using it, as I haven't connected up my aerial yet.

However, there is one major flaw in your suggestion - the clue is in the words 'catch' and 'up'.

Episode 5 was due to be broadcast yesterday, it wasn't.
Therefore, it's not available on 'catch-up' - do you see?
Same with yesterday's unbroadcasted episode of 'The Repair Shop' on TV.

Besides which, there's a principle at stake.
I didn't buy DAB radios to listen to FM programmes.
If Radio 4 is back to normal, why isn't Radio 4 Extra?
