Sister Lynne who is 71 has finally got an appointment for her jab on 10th April

Despite having had a brain aneurysm 10 Plus years ago and brought back from the brink she hadn’t been prioritised for the jab

She is still working from home on a reduced week but has to go out for shopping etc

She has said she feels very vulnerable because she was left with residual health issues

We had been hoping to go on a cruise last year and me staying with her for a month but it was all cancelled

Am hoping we may still do it even though my mobility has gone downhill

Crikey Shirley,how is she not on a priority list?? Here's hoping she will get it very soon.I feel vulnerable because I can't have it so am extra careful and not out as much.

I think a lot of older people's mobility will have suffered from having to stay home Shirley. When we were in the habit of going out regularly shopping etc staying home has stopped all that extra exercise and I definitely don't at the moment have as much energy as I did have.

You don’t realise how your own mobility drops from no exercise

I too felt my mobility had suffered and consequently it seemed that I had aged more than the 1 year that we have been restricted.

Yesterday, my elder daughter phoned and asked if we fancied a walk, now that the sun was warmer. It was so good to be able to walk with both my daughters at the same time now (one lives with me) and we walked about 3 and a half miles.
I felt I was getting my life back on track a bit.

I am hoping that it will gradually come back for me. I do try and do a short walk most days except when I have done a couple of hours gardening. I was quite thrilled that I managed to get the whole garden weeded in three or four days and the garden bin is full. when up at daughters in February/March we did walk over two miles a couple of days. Eeven before the virus T and I had cut our walks down to three miles but I don't want to cut it down any more.

In Canada so far the only group to have been offered the jab in great numbers is seniors in rest homes. Only in the last few weeks have they slowly started to offer to seniors in their own homes and others. In some hot spots areas they're starting to offer to people 50 and older but good luck getting an appointment being offered and actually getting isn't always the same thing.

Hope you get chance to see your sister later in the year x my mobility isn't the same it's just getting going again it's been a bad year for us all motivation as well with me but will get there now had both jabs onwards & upwards xx :-)

Well after 4 cancelled ops I may at last get my knee replacement surgery on 15th April

Grandaughter is self isolating so she can take me in and collect me and stay with me for two plus weeks after

I am hoping this will get me moving and then can make the journey to Canada some time

Have told myself I will do it and travel upgraded if necessary

the procedure for getting vaccinated in BC has been as follows ...............

Seniors and others and workers in care homes started to get vaccinated as soon as vaccines were available in mid December. That had to be completed before any others were vaccinated.

Seniors living independently in the community could phone to make appointments as the date for each cohort to call in was announced starting in early March, beginning with over 90s, then over 85s, over 84s, over 83s, over 82s, over 81s and over 80s.

Then came the over 79s dropping down to over 70s in the same single year way.

Of course, every cohort is larger than the one above it, so it takes longer to get all in one cohort vaccinated as the ages get younger.

Anyone living independently at home but with care givers coming to the home, whether for assistance in dressing/eating/medication/ etc or for house keeping services arranged by the Social Services are now being called to get vaccinated.. They have received a letter giving them a phone number to call to make an appointment at a clinic or for a home vaccination call.

If your sister has not been receiving any services from the Social Services people, then she has had to wait until her age group was reached, and over 71s have just been reached.

It doesn't matter that she has underlying health issues, if she is not receiving home care of any sort and is not on the Social Services network, then she's just had to wait until her age group was reached.

Her doctor may have been able to get her vaccinated earlier, if she had contacted him or if he thought it necessary.

Don't forget, you guys in the UK started getting vaccinated weeks before we did.

I'm over 81, and my first jab was only on Tuesday last week. Our 79-year old friend got his vaccination at around the same time, but he lives in a different health authority region with far fewer people living there.

Your sister lives in the Health Region with the largest population in BC, Fraser Health.

We now have to wait 16 weeks before getting the second jab ....... unless the vaccinating of everyone else takes less time, or we get much more vaccine in sooner than promised.

That means your sister will not get her 2nd jab until August ...... and will still have to take care until then, wearing a mask, spatial distancing and hand washing.

We're also not getting AstroZenica out of extreme caution, and because Canada was not as fast at approving it as the UK was ....... largely because AZ did not provide the test results that Canada insisted on seeing before giving any approval. Even now, it is only being given to people between the ages of 55 and 64 who work in crowded conditions such as food processing plants, or in dormitory style accommodations on farms.

It all makes sense to me, but maybe not to you who worries about her.
