I know the name Freddie Mills, but I well remember the winter of 62/63 and Kennedy.

The snow started on Boxing Day and we were driving across London to visit my Mum when a cyclist fell off in front of us, we skidded and managed to stop just inches from her. I don't know who was more relieved, us or her!

We were in Ghana when the assassination happened. They had loudspeakers in all the trees, which broadcast propoganda or The Messiah alternately all day!! We knew something major had happened because they started broadcasting the BBC World Service and the streets were filling up with people. So we put on our own radio and spent a lot of the day listening. It was a lot more factual and a lot less speculative than today's reporting.

Sorry about that, JoyLouise - George (cat) refused to come in last night!
For the past week, when I have managed to trap him indoors at bed time, he's bee howling, and knocking things over in the kitchen.

I managed to keep Betty in, but she wanted to be with her brother, outside, so she took over howling duty, outside my bedroom
It'll be quieter when I get a jig-saw and cut the hole for the cat flap! :-D :-D

Off to try to get back to sleep. I'll have to throw my shoe at the blooming cat if it howls outside my bedroom window again. It sounded like a baby and I jumped out of bed wondering whether it was - even though common sense would have told me it was unlikely.

Sorry cat lovers but I am usually a really sound sleeper who goes right through the night without stirring so I am :-| :-| :-|

If I remember correctly, he was a boxer wasn't he. He had dark curly hair, if I have the right one.

(Got woken about half an hour ago. :-| )

Edit: just googled and he was exactly as I remembered him. What I don't remember is him being on Six-Five Special (according to Google) which I often used to watch.
Gawd, my age is showing. :-0

Strange.
I can remember Kennedy - but probably only because of the news footage shown over the years.
The winter of 62/63 I can remember very well.
We'd moved from Malta to Lossiemouth, Scotland in the Summer of '62, and were living in a 'Bessacar' caravan.
The Bessacar had no bathroom- the loo was a bucket in a shed on the plot.
Caravan doors, and windows open outwards - unless the caravan is encased in snow!
Being the youngest, aged 6, I was provided with a potty, in case I needed the loo in the night.
That morning, unable to get out of the caravan, everyone wanted my potty! :-)

It must be an age thing. He is two years younger than me and can't remember Kennedy or the winter of 62/63.

The name's familiar, but I had to 'wiki' him.

I have absolutely no interest in sport, don't know what it i for really. OH would watch any sport and find an interest in it.

Last night we had the World spitting on the television and when it had finished, I noticed that we had missed all but the last half hour of the programme about the death of Freddie Mills so I tuned over to watch that and set up to record it when it came on again later.

To my amazement, OH had no idea of who Freddie Mills was and had never heard of him before.
