My mother and two of her siblings were a result of an affaire.
My DNA test confirms this
My mother died in 1970 when I was 15

. Do I open the can of worms or not..????? ;-) ;-) ;-)

Well, if your GT grand daughter has a tree, I'm sure she'd like it to be accurate! :-D :-D

Didn't I read somewhere, that 1 in 25 fathers are not the biological parent of a child they believe is theirs?

..which is why a lot of my tree goes through the female side!! :-D :-D

Yes definitely open it, I did and as a result I could tell my Uncle that a child in a photo he had was his half sister, my Mum but his Mother would change the subject if he asked who it was.

It depends what you want to find - my own personal thought is please do.
I have so far found it very interesting and enlightening. I learn something all the time.

I opened my can of worms after my mum had died. She would not talk about my father I wish she had - she didn't even tell her closest friend or cousin - they couldn't help me at all.

Her best friend said - the first she knew about me was when mum went to stay with her and had a 3 year old girl with her. No explanation given. I wrote to my mums friends when she died and 80% of them didn't know she had a daughter. I was 32 then.

A few years later not with DNA but with Genes reunited message board - i found a half sister, on my father's side,

A few years later with Ancestry I found contact with my fathers 1st wife's family and 2 half brothers and a lot of info on my father - none of it good.

Then DNA came into my life - I discovered cousins and family i never knew i had. I also found my father had 9 children (so far) at least 6 different mothers to his children and probably a lot more out there i have no idea about.

I am still learning. I wish you great joy in your search. The watch word is

Be prepared for anything .

Tabitha
I am keeping quiet about the worms unless asked.. at first
Then I will break to them gently later .. :-D

Very good idea. The family i spoke to did that just to suss me out and see if i knew the kind of person my father was. When i said i knew nothing they were very reserved, but eventually i got the whole story.

Hope you get a lot of joy out the DNA too as well as news.
