My mother always used to let the dog out to do it's business.

I have no idea what business it worked in but alway pictured it at a desk in the garden at night.

And didn't we all love that poem at school about those who 'do their business in great waters'?

Some of us have to get up and make our own breakfast!! :-|

Not only that, until I get the hole for the cat flap cut, I also have to clean out litter trays, in the case of George, and work out where the scatty and paranoid Betty's done her 'business'.

I tried asking for a dozen oysters and a bottle of Bollinger this morning.

Did I want Marmite or marmalade?

I think it is just his morning script.

He is already preparing himself to make two slices of toast when he asks and, should I ask for cornflakes or kippers, two slices of toast would be duly delivered.

It is all part of the routine. Get up. play your euphonium or whatever it is he does in there that sounds like it, have a wash and deliver your script.

Because one should never presume what another person wants, even if the answer is predictable.

That way, YOU still are in charge.

I mean, one day you might prefer a Marmite sandwich instead !

OH gets up before I do. I have not been out to work for years, what with my several years as PA to Fred the socialite and my prolongued sojourn in Loonyland, so it is the routine we have developed.

Every morning he asks me what I would like for breakfast the possibilities come to mind, devilled kidneys, foie gras, kedgeree, chops, a McDonalds. Every morning I have a cup of tea and two slices of toast. The biggest variation is whether it is all Marmite or one of marmalade.

Why does he bother?
