We have lots of ancient bridleways etc in our vicinity. We are lucky that they are well used so no danger of legal closure.

Allan, my OH was a climber and fell-walker for years. Ecen when really long walks got a bit beyond him, he used to provide back-up, carting tents and camping gear from one stop to the next. His walking group used to raise funds for the RNLI.

OH even dragged me up one mountain and, astonishingly expected me to do another the following day! I'm afraid I am of the 'seen one, seen them all' type - one rock looks the same as the next. I much prefer to look at various buildings.

He can't understand me thinking that hills and mountains get in the way of a great view. But, as far as I'm concerned, they do!

So, when asked 'What did protesting ever do for us'?
There are many things, apart from work-related rights. :-D :-D

Written either for, or in commemoration of, the Mass Trespass

I did a lot of walking in this area of the Peak District when I was much younger.

The Snake Inn was a favourite watering hole :-)

Interesting piece, Rollo, and one that my OH knew about; it was instrumental in bringing about Rights of Way (if I heard my OH right).

Unfortunately, constant footfall sometimes brings about degradation of land and even now it is necessary to cordon off sections for repairs and re-seeding.

My OH came across this several times, for instance the Lyke Wake Walk (near the Sun Inn) was one he mentioned.
